Meet the Kindness Bunny

Meet the Kindness Bunny.

Our girls are struggling at the moment.

They are struggling with wants and needs different from their own.  They are being overwhelmed by big feelings of anger and the process of maintaining self-control.  Their three year age gap seems very wide at the moment and their need for attention-at-all-cost from me and each other is insatiable.

And as such, I am struggling.

Struggling to maintain my calm with the constant picking and bickering. Constantly asking my normally sweet and thoughtful girls to remember to be kind to each other. While I’m sure this phase is temporary and they will be back to their normal balanced friendly selves, we definitely needed a kindness infusion.

I wanted to inspire them to be kinder to each other without the focus being on the other person, and giving something up. For the focus to be on gaining something, and for the kindness to come from within.

Hence, meet the kindness bunny.

The concept is simple:

The girls can use her as a symbol of an act of kindness they do for someone else in the family. They complete an act of kindness for another member of the family (complete a chore, get a treat, do something sweet) and place the kindness bunny in that spot.
The kindness bunny moves on to that family member and gets passed around, inspiring and sharing kindness as she goes.

I left her on the hallway table and waited for one of the girls to find her.

The kindness bunny came to our house today, because she knew that kindness had been missing here lately

*Heads nodding in agreement*

She helps you to find kindness. If you hold her close, she will share her kindness with you.

*Hugs and cuddles to try her out*

She will help you to feel kinder to yourself and to others. Then you will be able to more easily think of kind things you can do for another family member, and then you can leave her there in recognition of your kind act and to help that family member find some kindness for others too. They might even do something kind for you.

*Murmurs of excitement and discussions about who gets to try the kindness bunny first*

The kindness bunny has inspired Miss almost 3 to get her big sister a drink of water, all by herself. She inspired Miss almost 6 to put away the contents her little sister’s tidy-up toy bucket.  She has inspired drawings and cards and love notes for each other. She even made Show andTell at school. She has been going back and forward for three days now, and there certainly has been a huge influx of kindness at our house.

And if you need any further proof of how well she is working….  She even inspired Hubby to pop down to the shop for a block of Whittakers peppermint dark chocolate for me while I was having a rough time getting Miss 6 months to agree with my opinions on sleeping!

What do you think of our Kindness Bunny? Have you done anything similar? Why not try it and share your results with us here….

  1. Oh we need a kindness bunny, here right now. She sounds totally the right thing for us currently. Plus if she can inspire chocolate....

P is under the weather and I can only be scratchy, I do not mean to be but with the PA going on leave and everything else. It is all too much right now. ;(
