BTPT: Children's Birthday Interview Book

Been There, Pinned That, Changed My Life : Children’s Birthday Interview Book

It’s true that children say some of the cutest things. My Facebook feed is often filled with my children's and my friends' children's' cutesy sayings and conversations. Sadly Facebook has no “Preserve for All Eternity” button, and these wonderful moments in time are long forgotten as soon as they disappear from the news feed.

When I saw this pin, I thought this would be a fabulous idea to start a birthday book for each of my girls preserving a brief snapshot in time that they could look back on to get an idea of who they were, what they liked and disliked, and what was important to them, and earn a *Super Mummy Star*in the process.

I began with their details of their birth.

And then compiled a list of interesting questions to ask them, which I ask on their birthday each year. Their birthday interview is becoming a bit of a tradition.

The questions are:

  •  My favourite food is:
  • The best show on tv is:
  • My favourite thing to learn is:
  • The thing I do best is:
  • If I could go anywhere, I'd go:
  • My favourite colour is:
  • When I grow up, I want to:
  • The song I love to sing is:
  • My best friends are:
  • The book I read last night was:
  • Three words to describe me:
  • The thing that makes me happiest is:

The first years were less interview and more fabrication, based on Mummy’s observations.

I had a great time choosing pictures from significant events during the year, including details of their party and cake. If I’m going to spend hours struggling with fondant, the result can bloody well be immortalized for all time

One of the things I enjoy most is being able to easily compare the girls at the same age.  So similar, yet little individuals.

And there you go. These are fast becoming one of the possessions I would grab in case of evacuation.  And in adding to the folders each year, I am really getting a feeling for how special these books are going to be by the time they turn twenty one. How scary to think they will ever be that old. But at least I will have their cutesy sayings from younger years standing by and ready to bring out at their 21st party!

What do you think of this Pinterest project? Have you done anything similar? Why not try it, and share your results with us here….

  1. I love this idea, and I'm going to steal it if you don't mind! what a fantastic way of capturing where they're at at a certain age.
